About the session

Outpatient services are under sustained pressure. Demand keeps rising, clinic capacity is lost before it reaches patients, and teams are asked to deliver national priorities alongside the day job.

This is a conversation for people who want to learn how to do outpatients well: those facing the challenges now, and those who have found a way through. It is not a sales pitch. You will hear practical examples from clinical and operational experts, and have time to discuss with peers.

Who it is for

  • Chief operating officers and deputies
  • Divisional and clinical directors
  • Outpatient and elective recovery leads
  • Transformation leads and ICB elective leads in acute trusts, ICBs and their partners

What you will take away

  • A clearer view of where outpatient capacity is really going
  • Practical ideas for turning national guidance into local change
  • Real examples, and the chance to learn from your peers

BackgroundWhat is GIRFT and why does it matter?

Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) is a national NHS England programme, led by clinicians, that works to improve quality of care and reduce unwarranted variation. Its outpatient work sets out what good looks like, including Advice and Guidance, Patient Initiated Follow Up, Single Point of Access and straight to test pathways, and how outpatient services connect with primary, community and neighbourhood care.

The guidance is strong. The opportunity now is to turn it into change that patients and staff can feel, by understanding where the real opportunity sits locally and bringing the right people together to act on it. That is what this session looks at.

GIRFT figures are national findings, not Develop Consulting’s own results. Develop Consulting is not part of GIRFT, and this session does not replace or rebadge national guidance.
