Today in our recent Five Minutes With… series, we speak to Jamie Whittaker, one of our healthcare consultants.

Healthcare consultant Jamie Whittaker Develop Consulting

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your background and how did you get into consulting?

I have a background of 16 years within the motoring manufacturing industry, working in production, HR, external affairs and also within facilities and environment for a large Japanese motor manufacturer. So I have a great understanding of how businesses work, from operations to boardroom, shopfloor and everything in-between.

I got into consulting thanks to a friend who I worked with at the company who also made the leap, and I haven’t looked back since.

What have you been working on for the past year and in which sectors?

For the past year I have been working within the healthcare sector supporting Primary care with the PGP Quick Start programme. I have also supported the Nobel’s hospital on the Isle of Man (the IoM) Acute over the summer.

I really enjoy working on the PGP Quick Start programme as I feel I am really helping the end users (both practice staff and patients) and feel proud we are helping the public access services, in what were very challenging times.

What is it that you like about working in consulting?

I really enjoy helping our clients and internal team develop, and also developing myself – every day is a learning day! I recently reflected on the last 30 years of my working life and there is a lot of knowledge and experience there. Passing that onto the client and colleagues to enable great change gives me satisfaction.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to come into the trade?

Be patient, listen and look at the bigger picture and always challenge.

And where do you see the next eight months taking Develop Consulting?

It’s been quite a journey these last few years and so I do think the rest of 2022 will be a strong one. I think there will be more sustainable growth, stability and reward within the business and the privilege to be able to select our clients.
