Half Marathon Support for Nepal School

12 Jul 2022

A Develop Consulting associate who is looking to help transform the lives of children in Nepal has been training for a half marathon to raise funds.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Develop Consulting would be supporting work done by Rotary International through our associate Lean consultant Lee Kemp.

Lee, who has worked alongside Develop Consulting for three-and-a-half years, approached the consultancy to assist in a project which he leads as a Rotarian of Chesterfield Satellite Rotary Club.

Over 300 schools had been demolished in an Earthquake in 2015 and the money and support from Rotary International since has helped start rebuild them and also support the generation of children who have missed out on education. In 2018 Lee visited Nepal to witness one of the first schools reopening due to the support of Dronfield Rotary fundraising efforts. He had planned

to visit again later this year, this has been postponed due to the war in the Ukraine.

Lee said: “Of course this, alongside the pandemic could never have been predicted by any of us and although it’s disappointing that we can’t get there this October, we still want to make sure they have our continued support.

“This area has one in four people living on less than 80p per day and the problem has not gone away so it’s really important we keep giving them our support which is why I decided to run the half marathon,” he said.

Lee will be taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon event in September and has set himself the target of breaking the under two-hour barrier.

“For a man my age and with flat feet, this is no small challenge, so I do hope that we can boost the funds more and help support and change the lives of 309 children in Nepal,” he added.

Steve Boam, CEO of Develop Consulting said: “We wish Lee every bit of luck in his latest challenge and know he will do brilliantly. He is a great member of our team and we are glad to be able to offer our support.”
